Being Productive
Get into the grove and stay there
- Avoid interruptions by scheduling blocks of time where you turn off notifications (phone, email, etc…) for at least an hour at a time.
- Be healthy (eat well, sleep, and sweat) to keep your mind sharp.
- Surround yourself with people that make you smile.
- Build a support network of people to help you get through problems when you get stuck.
Make the best use of your time
- Work on important projects. Urgent ≠ Important. A project or task is important if it progress you towards one of your goals.
- Keep a list. Make a list of the top things you’ll do each day, put it in front of you. It will help you focus and crossing items off feels good. If you have to wait for someone else, or don’t have the time/energy to tackle a specific task you can pick something else on your list.
Get tasks done and beat procrastination
- Visualize success. Write the task in the past tense to describe what you’ll have accomplished.
- Simplify tasks. Perfectionists and big picture thinkers can get stuck in the details and possibilities of a task. Make your next action an outline or a draft, then build from there.
- Break big tasks into little tasks. Write down the next step you can take towards completing a project, then do it.
- Make tasks fun. Take a minute to think how you could really enjoy doing a task.
